Does your nonprofit have an exit strategy?
“I’ve heard more than one nonprofit leader say that their top priority is to build an enduring institution — not get the job done and then go out of business. That’s fine for a school, university, art museum, symphony, community theater. We want those institutions to endure. After all, there’s no defined “end” to their work. But an organization devoted to social change has to have an end...

Improve your influence
“Don’t work on your Klout score. Work on understanding influence…Do work on learning how to be most helpful to those in your segment of the universe that are growing. Do work on putting more resources in the hands of people who need to grow. Do work on never missing an opportunity to take a privilege and to extend it into something more than what you started with. How Often to Email in 2011? →
75% of the non-profit communicators surveyed (of 150) indicated that they planned to email their lists at least once a month. Wondering: What are the corresponding open rates? Beyond my own vested interest in seeing what organizations are doing from a communications perspective, I have to have to be specifically invested in anything to appreciate being emailed more frequently than once a month.

Storytelling for Business (or hey - nonprofits,...
Extract from article… Start with a character and a point of view. Harry Potter is the story of a young boy who feels he’s very different and very left out, discovering that he’s not where he was meant to be, and then it grows into this larger epic about defeating evil. Now, if you run an air conditioning installation company, you might not be able to talk about a secret school, owls, and a...
